Patient Safety

At LUMED Hospital, patient safety is a fundamental part of our commitment to delivering safe, quality, and compassionate healthcare. Protecting your privacy, safeguarding your medical information, and ensuring secure handling of all patient records are responsibilities we take seriously.

Our Patient Safety Program ensures that every member of our healthcare team upholds confidentiality, ethical practice, and professional conduct at all times.

Commitment to Privacy and Confidentiality

The responsibility of confidentiality extends beyond simply keeping personal information private. It includes ensuring that:

  • All written patient information, medical records, and waivers are stored securely
  • Only authorized personnel have access to confidential documents
  • Patient information is handled with utmost integrity and care

All LUMED associates, medical staff, employees, and volunteers adhere to the hospital’s confidentiality policies and sign a Confidentiality Agreement upon hiring. This ensures full compliance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and other applicable regulations.

Protection of Patient Information

At LUMED Hospital, we take strict measures to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information. We follow these guiding principles:

  • Confidential records are never left unattended or exposed
  • Information containing patient details is transmitted only through secure and confidential channels
  • Discussions about patients, staff, or hospital matters that involve protected information must be done privately and only with authorized individuals
  • Public conversations about identifiable patient information are strictly prohibited

These practices help us maintain a safe and trustworthy environment for all patients, employees, and visitors.

What Counts as Confidential Patient Information

Confidential Patient Information refers to any data that can identify an individual and is connected to their medical care, treatment, or personal circumstances. This includes information about the patient and their family members.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Medical and psychiatric records (paper, electronic, photos, videos, diagnostic and treatment reports)
  • Laboratory and pathology specimens
  • Patient insurance, billing, and financial records
  • Electronic health records, computerized data, and system messages
  • Observations of patients while receiving care or using hospital services
  • Verbal information provided by the patient, family, or healthcare team

All such information is protected and must be treated with the highest level of confidentiality.

Our Shared Responsibility

Every member of the LUMED community is responsible for patient safety, including:

  • Healthcare workers
  • Administrative staff
  • Support personnel
  • Students and trainees
  • Contracted service providers

We work together to ensure that patient information is always protected and that we sustain a culture of safety and confidentiality throughout the hospital.

Confidentiality Standards

LUMED follows strict confidentiality guidelines to ensure that all patient information is handled with the highest level of protection. This includes securing physical medical records, safeguarding electronic data stored in our systems, and protecting private conversations shared during consultations and treatment. Only authorized healthcare personnel are permitted to access patient information, and all staff members are required to follow established privacy protocols at all times. LUMED is fully committed to maintaining a safe environment where every patient’s personal and medical information remains confidential, respected, and protected throughout their entire care journey.
